Move a feeling
deepening practice to learn from (not fix) feelings
One way to expand our capacity to listen to a feeling is to attune to its movement.
When we invite more space for feelings to move and express themselves, we nurture trust and reciprocal relationship.
Practice:
Connect with a feeling you’d like to learn more about (perhaps one you’ve been pushing away or trying to “fix”).
Feel where it lives within your body and…
Sense vibration.
Every feeling holds vibration. Vibration is frequency, pattern, message—language. Let yourself sense into this language. Sense its textures, colors, rhythms, shapes, and subtleties.
Draw movement.
Hold a pencil above a piece of paper and let your hand move the vibrations you sense. Maybe close your eyes. Let the feeling move upon the page as if it’s dancing. You aren’t drawing “about” anything. You’re allowing the feeling to express itself and reveal nuances you’ve kept tucked away.
Let the movement grow.
Stay with the feeling’s movement and follow it. This may grow into more drawing. It may become small, physical movements or sounds. It may evolve into full-body dancing. Continue to listen through whatever emerges.
When the experience feels complete, pause, and say thank you.
Feelings feel the vibrational language of gratitude. :)
